Chakras and What Are They For

The base chakra is our connection with the physical world. It is associated with stability, security and our survival. Also known as the earth or root chakra, it provides us with the solid ground upon which we can build our lives. It enables us to perceive the earth as a safe, secure place that satisfies all of our needs. The water element purifies, too, and dissolves away blockages, enabling our feelings to flow freely. If the sacral chakra is disharmonious, there will be problems with the sexual organs and in forming relationships. This chakra is connected to the water element and problems may arise with the kidneys and bladder. Crystals: Carnelian, orange calcite

It is from this chakra that we transform our desires and emotions into action. The solar plexus chakra is also concerned with transforming our food into energy and with separating the useful from the not so useful. If this chakra is imbalanced there will be an inner restlessness and lack of contentment. This agitation and inability to relax is often coupld with a lack of self esteem and self confidence. From this centre, we listen to our inner voice. Through it we express the contents of all of the other chakras to the world. An imbalance psychologically can indlude an inability to express one's emotions.
